- Ride Along 2
- The Revenant
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
- Daddy's Home
After this weekend we have a new headliner. Action comedy with Ice Cube overtook "The Revenant" and "The Force Awakens" which broke another Titanic record.
By the end of the fourth week of January the force of seventh episode of Star Wars was conquered by another movie - a sequel action comedy about two Miami police officers.
Ride Along 2 cashed in more than $41 million during the weekend of 15-18 January.
The first Ride Along released in 2014 was about security guard Ben who had to prove himself to be a top cop to his girlfriend's brother James. The first movie was very successful and the box office revenues reached $154 millions. It was clear that second movie will come out in some time.
Here we meet our old pal Ben. This time he helps James in Miami. They are on a case to bring down a drug dealer. Unfortunately Rotten Tomatoes user were not impressed and new movie scored only 14%. However IMBD rating was 5.7 after 1580 user votes. Not bad!
Looks like there's no justice in this world, otherwise The Revenant would be on top of the box office. Just think about it: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's movie is trendy. Golden Globe for the best motion picture and best performance by Leonardo DiCaprio. Twelve Oscar nominations for the best picture, directing and best actor in a leading role etc. Looks like DiCaprio finally could win Oscar from his fifth try... well the movie cashed $39 million during the weekend and occupied second spot beating Star Wars!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens managed to stay at the top for four weeks. This weeks it managed to earn $32 millions and dropped to the third place. The movie is very close to $900 million mark in USA box office only. It is only a matter of few weeks and total box office earnings could reach one billion.
Worldwide earnings already over one billion mark and The Force Awakens is fifth most profitable movies of all time. It will soon beat Jurassic World ($1.016 billion) and Fast & Furious 7 ($1.162 billion). Things are not looking very good in China, but Titanic with $2.18 billion could be soon moved to the third place. Star Wars: The Force Awakens worldwide gross is $1.87 billion in only 5 weeks!
Too much of numbers! The Force Awakens nominated to five Oscars including best visual effects and original score.
Another new entry on the fourth place is Michael Bay's action thriller 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The movie is based on true story happened in 2012 in Libya. Group of theorists attacked USA embassy. Special forces got orders not to get involved, but they decided help embassy workers. 13 Hours movie cashed $16 million over the weekend.
Fifth place claimed by a comedy Daddy's Home with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. After four weeks earnings gross reached $132 million.
