USA box office weekend: 19-21 February review
This week's box office number one is Deadpool. Kung Fu Panda 3 is the second. Rest of the top 5 movies could have earned as much . Here is the detailed review.
Last week Deadpool broke the record and became most performed movie with adult rating R. No surprise it is still number one this week. On the other hand there were no other big new releases this week. Audience was concentrated on Marvel's superhero adventures.
During the weekend of 19-21 of Feb Deadpool earned $55 million and still strong at number one spot in USA and Canada.
Within 10 days in cinemas worldwide it is earned almost half billion. It is also important that marvel spent $59 million on production.
Deadpool made $235 million in USA and became the sixth most earning movie with rating R.
Second is Kung Fu Panda 3 with $12.5 million for the weekend and $279 million in total.
At third place we find new entry Risen. It made $11.8 million during first weekend. Almost as much as second place but just a bit short.
The movie is about first 40 days after rise of the Christ. Pontius Pilate asked centurion Claudius investigate rumours about Christ death. The movie makers believed many religious people will be interested in the movie, but as we can see this is not happening and it is only the third.
Rating wise it is not great. Viewers voted A- and Rotten Tomatoes rating is only 58%.
Another new entry at nr 4 is The Witch. It crashed in $8.6 million during the weekend.
The movie is about religious family who came to America in XVII century and decided to live at a remote farm in new England. Later on it is becoming clear that there is something wrong about the place...
The horror movie production cost was 3.5 m. Rotten Tomatoes rated it 88%.
At number 5 How to Be Single with Dakota Johnson. Weekend earnings are $8.2 million witch is 54% less than last week.
